Test the configured demand inputs, supplier packs, lead times, incoming orders and locations. Then change a supplier commitment and inspect the next recommendation. Give each candidate representative demand: stable, seasonal, newly launched and intermittent. Ask the buyer to explain a recommendation, adjust an input and observe the consequence. Decide whether planning is for the entire business, a warehouse or each shop. A strong store-wide forecast can still lead to a stockout at the wrong location.
Use the Shopify software shortlist when the store-specific workflow is the decision. Do not assume these applications end at forecasting; test the purchasing features documented by each vendor.
MarketMan: restaurant usage and receiving

Sortly: dependable counts before more complex planning
Sortly describes physical inventory tracking and built-in purchase orders, including received and partially received statuses. Sortly purchase orders.
For a stockroom or service business, a maintainable count and reorder routine may be enough. Test consumed supplies separately from reusable assets: a checked-out tool is still owned stock, while a used supply has been consumed. Choose a more elaborate replenishment system only when its additional decisions justify the maintenance work.

For manufacturing, test a supplier delay against the next available production slot. For multichannel stock, test reservations and receiving across the actual locations. Work one recommendation by hand
Use this illustrative calculation to challenge the demo:

The uncovered requirement is 100 + 20 − 30 − 40 = 50 units. If the supplier sells packs of 12, five packs provide 60 units, ten above the unrounded requirement. The buyer should be able to inspect that surplus and the assumptions behind the buffer.
Now move the incoming 40 outside the useful delivery window. The requirement becomes 90 before pack rounding, or eight packs containing 96 units. A tool that counts late inbound supply as available would understate the on-time need. Different businesses can use different policies; the important requirement is an explicit, reviewable calculation.
For perishables, add shelf-life and storage constraints. For intermittent demand, compare against a simple baseline instead of assuming a particular statistical method always wins. The demand-pattern classifier can help explain the pattern, but it is not proof that a forecast has been validated for your catalog.
Measure planning and execution separately
Planning test: use the same historical cutoff and holdout period for every method. Compare forecast error, stockout days, excess inventory and the resulting purchase decisions. Record promotions, stockouts and manual overrides that affect the interpretation. A model should not use information that was unavailable at the decision date.
Execution test: turn the recommendation into a reviewed PO, change a supplier quantity or date, receive part of the order and inspect the remaining balance. Verify the next recommendation and accounting handoff. Check that retrying a failed update does not duplicate stock or bills.
Usability test: have the regular buyer and receiver perform their steps. Record time, corrections and exceptions over representative order cycles. A faster demonstration is not a reliable time-saving claim until the method and sample are clear.
Decide against the complete job

A planning tool can be sufficient when the rest of the purchase process already works. A stock tool can be sufficient when reliable counts are the missing input. Evaluate a connected procurement workflow when supplier changes and receiving repeatedly undermine the plan. Choose from observed operating evidence rather than a universal “best overall” label.
